Quick start leads to Paints 4-2 win over Lafayette
LAFAYETTE, IN — It didn’t take Chillicothe Paints to get back on track.
After seeing their seven-game winning streak come to a halt on Saturday, the visiting Paints came right back on Sunday and earned a 4-2 Prospect League win over the Lafayette Aviators.
Chillicothe came out smoking at home plate as he recorded nine of his 12 hits over the first three innings. The Paints scored two runs in the top of the first inning, added a run in the third and another in the fourth.
Tim Orr and Ben Gbur had RBI singles in the first inning and Gbur added an RBI single in the third inning. The Paints scored an unearned run in the fourth.
Four different Paints players had at least two hits, led by Mike Sprockett, who went 3-for-5, including a double and two runs. Jeron Williams was 2 for 4 with a double, Orr went 2 for 5 with an RBI and Gbur was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
Cameron Bowen had a triple and Santrel Farmer and Owen Wilson had a hit each.
The Paints’ pitch was outstanding. Dylan Taliaferro started and took the win pitching seven innings, scattering nine hits and two runs. He hit a season-high seven and walked two. Cal McAninch pitched the eighth inning, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out two. Evan Wolfe pitched the ninth inning to catch his third save.
After a day off Monday, Chillicothe will travel to West Virginia to face the Miners at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday. The Paints will return home for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Danville Dans on Wednesday before hitting the road.
